Generation Equality Film Festival opens submissions for Paris Forum

Deadline: 18 June, 2021

[1 May 2021] Last March, during the Generation Equality Forum in Mexico, convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France, in partnership with youth and civil society, a successful edition of the Generation Equality Film Festival was launched, gathering young filmmakers around the world.

The submission is now open for the Festival’s second round taking place in the Generation Equality Forum in Paris, France, from 30 June-2 July 2021. The Film Festival represents a unique platform for young filmmakers to showcase their powerful works to the world, win a cash prize and open new spaces for dialogue around the use of arts to challenge stereotypes and change social norms.

The Generation Equality Film Festival Paris edition is open for submissions until 18 June, 2021!

Eligibility:

Be to-the-point: Films must not exceed 6 minutes of running time, including credits.

Be under 30: Professional and non-professional filmmakers and storytellers of all genders ages 18-30 years old are invited to submit works.

Be bold and inclusive: any film type is accepted, fiction, nonfiction or documentary, experimental videos, animation, and more. We encourage a creative spirit that reflects youth activism - diverse, inclusive, original.

The Generation Equality Film Festival Mexico edition:

Earlier this year, the Film Festival launched a call for submissions inviting young people under 30 years-old to share their creative work. The winners of the Mexico edition were:  Hail Mary, by Edlyn Castellanos (Mexico); Tishala, Nothing to Lose, by Brian Wachira (Kenya); Ode to the Girl Child, by Anna Samokhina (Uzbekistan); and a special mention to Lullaby, by Elham Khazaei (Iran).

The winners were announced at a ceremony during the Generation Equality Forum in Mexico (29 – 31 March 2021) featuring Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Women Executive Director; Lopa Banerjee, Executive Coordinator of the Generation Equality Forum, UN Women; Ana Souza, from Sundance Film Festival; and Lucia Gajá, Mexican Filmmaker. The event was followed by a conversation between the awardees and jury members on the use of arts to achieve gender equality.

The films are available to watch on YouTube in English and Spanish.
