We’re witnessing an era of powerful young women leading the fight for a better world.
Greta Thunberg, whose Fridays For Futures movement revolutionized the world of activism, is bringing our voices to the global stage.
Emma Gonzalez and her classmates, survivors of the deadly Parkland school shooting in 2018, started the largest youth movement against gun violence that has ever existed.
Olivia Seltzer, editor-in-chief of The Cramm, oversees a news empire reaching more than a million people every month with over 500 team members across every continent.
Isra Hirsi, the17-year-old co-founder of the U.S Youth Climate Strike, was recognized on Fortune’s 2020 40 under 40 in Government and Politics List for her tireless environmental and racial justice activism.
Everywhere you turn today, Gen Z women are leaders, activists, organizers, change makers, and revolutionaries.
Did we ever really have a choice?
We were born into one of the most unpredictable periods in the world’s history. We’ve lived through two global recessions, a global pandemic, the threat of climate change, numerous wars, environmental catastrophes, the constant threat of gun violence, and all while the oldest of us have barely graduated high school. As women, we’ve experienced all of this in addition to abuse and discrimination. We’ve seen firsthand how all of these crises have disproportionately impacted women.
But we saw something else too.
We saw Malala Yousafzai survive an attack that almost killed her and then come back stronger. We watched her set the world alight with hope and promises of books, pens, teachers, and a world worth changing.
We saw Michelle Obama lead with dignity and grace, igniting within the heart of every girl lucky enough to get her hands on a copy of Becoming the drive and spirit of a leader.
When we add all of this together, the unbelievable time into which we were born and the equally unbelievable role models we have to admire, it’s no surprise that young women are at the forefront of demanding — and creating—- a better world.
Remember, you are a part of a sisterhood of game changers.
Take action:
- Read a biography about a woman you look up to;,
- Investigate the stories of girls who are just like you and learn how they’re changing the world;,
- Make a plan to join them.
