CNN lists Action Coalition Leader, Fos Feminista’s Fadekemi Akinfaderin, in 30 Defenders of Women and LGBTQ+ Rights

As part of the As Equals series, CNN has listed Fos Feminista’s Chief Global Advocacy Officer – Fadekemi Akinfaderin – as one of 30 Defenders of Women and LGBTQ+ Rights.

Fos Feminista’s commitments to Generation Equality cut across all areas of the Action Coalition on Bodily Autonomy and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) blueprint – advancing comprehensive sexuality education, safe abortion and contraception, and strengthening feminist movements.

As a leader in the Action Coalition, Fos Feminista plays a critical role in driving strategy and advocacy (having led the Action Coalition’s Strategic Meeting in 2023), and efforts on feminist financing for SRHR at this year’s Sixty-Eighth Commission on the Status of Women.

In naming Fadekemi Akinfaderin to its ’30 Defenders’ list, CNN acknowledges that she has, “Been vocal about the challenges facing Africa’s adolescent girls and women, both nationally and internationally.”

Holding more than 20 years of experience working in partnership with women’s rights organizations, funds, and feminist and social justice movements – Fadekemi began her career as a sexual and reproductive health and rights activist. She co-founded Education as a Vaccine (EVA) in Nigeria, to advance adolescent and young people’s rights to health, including sexual and reproductive rights.

She was also a technical advisor for the Government of Nigeria at key international SRHR meetings: the United Nations Commission on Population and Development, and the Commission on the Status of Women. Fadekemi is also known as a champion for requesting Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission to publish its findings on alleged forced abortions for victims of insurgency.
